An August To Remember: Horvath Named CFL Player Of The Month
Running back is on pace for a CFL-record 26 touchdowns and his first 1,000-yard campaign in 2026.
(Ottawa)- The accolades keep coming for Zander Horvath, as the running back was named the CFL Player of the Month following an outstanding four-game run in August.
After wrapping up July with a monster 191-yard rushing and three-touchdown performance in a crucial victory at Winnipeg, Horvath’s impact continued over the next four weeks, where he totalled 473 yards from scrimmage (371 rushing, 102 yards receiving) on 74 touches and ten total touchdowns. In Sunday’s win over Ottawa, Horvath tied the single-game Lions record of four touchdowns, shared by James Butler, Geroy Simon, Willie Fleming and several others.
The Purdue product is now in a position to make history, currently sitting six touchdowns shy of Cory Philpot’s Lions record of 22 (1995) and seven behind Milt Stegall’s CFL record of 23 (2002).
Receivers KeeSean Johnson of Saskatchewan and Tyson Philpot of Montreal round out the Players of the Month, finishing second and third, respectively.
